Conductivity Detectives: Build & Test Your Own Conductivity Device!Â
Get ready for a shockingly fun and educational experience in our 2-hour Conductivity Device Workshop! In this hands-on STEM session, students will explore the fascinating world of electrical conductivity by building a simple device that can test whether everyday objects are conductors or insulators.
Combining both the Engineering Design Process and the Scientific Method, students will not only design and build their own working conductivity tester, but also conduct experiments to explore and record which materials allow electricity to flow. They’ll make hypotheses, test variables, collect data, and analyze their results—just like real scientists and engineers.
What to Expect:
-
Learn the difference between conductors and insulators
-
Build a working conductivity testing device using basic electronic components
-
Use the Engineering Design Process to plan, build, and refine their device
-
Apply the Scientific Method to test, record, and evaluate conductivity in various materials
-
Practice critical thinking, data analysis, and hands-on problem-solving
-
Discover how these principles apply to real-world electronics and technology
