FIRST® LEGO® League Teams
Why Homeschoolers Should Join FIRST LEGO League
FIRST LEGO League is more than just building robots—it’s a dynamic, hands-on program that teaches students critical life skills like teamwork, creative problem-solving, public speaking, and time management. For homeschoolers, it’s an especially valuable opportunity to engage in collaborative learning, apply STEM concepts in real-world challenges, and build strong social connections. Whether your child is interested in engineering, coding, design, or simply exploring how things work, FIRST LEGO League offers an exciting, structured environment that nurtures curiosity and confidence. It’s a place where homeschoolers can thrive, compete, and discover their potential—while having a whole lot of fun along the way.
Team Opportunities in Northeast Florida
Edison Kids proudly supports youth robotics through partnerships across Northeast Florida. In the Jacksonville area and surrounding communities, we directly offer teams through our Maverick Robotics program. For families in Alachua County, we collaborate with Swampbots Inc. to bring exciting FIRST® robotics opportunities to local students. Together, we’re empowering the next generation of innovators through hands-on robotics experiences.

Maverick Robotics
Although Maverick Robotics officially adopted its name in 2019, our roots in the FIRST® program run much deeper. Our founding coach—and current president—is entering her 10th season of coaching, beginning with just two students on an Explore team attending a festival at LEGOLAND. Since then, the program has expanded to 10 teams across 3 levels, serving homeschool students across 150 miles and three locations.
Driven by a passion to bring high-quality, competitive robotics opportunities to the homeschool community, we are proud to continue building top-performing teams. Our students have competed at the world level, and one even earned the prestigious honor of being named a Dean’s List Finalist at the World Festival.
With a growing team of dedicated and inspiring coaches, we are excited for the challenges and opportunities the new season will bring.

Swampbots Inc.
After working closely with Swampbots Inc. over several seasons, it became clear that there was no better organization to partner with in serving the homeschool community of Alachua County. Their mission to bring meaningful STEM opportunities to rural areas aligns perfectly with the values and vision of Edison Kids. What began as a shared passion for robotics and education has grown into a collaborative effort to provide students with life-changing experiences through the FIRST® program.
Swampbots’ dedication to youth development goes far beyond building robots. Their legacy team has achieved a level of success unmatched in the region, a reflection of the exceptional coaching and support that drives the program forward.
As their program continues to expand, so does their influence. We are honored to support and promote their efforts as a trusted partner in the Edison Kids community.
