Flight School: Paper Airplane Engineering ChallengeÂ
Take learning to new heights in our 2-hour Paper Airplane Engineering Workshop! In this high-flying STEM challenge, students will explore the principles of flight—lift, drag, thrust, and gravity—while designing, testing, and refining their very own paper airplane models. The ultimate goal? Build a paper plane that flies the farthest, fastest, or most accurately to hit a target!
Using the Engineering Design Process in a STEM Fair-style format, students will work through each step—ask, imagine, plan, create, test, and improve—as they experiment with different folds, weights, wing shapes, and designs. Along the way, they’ll gain a deeper understanding of aerodynamics and real-world aviation concepts, all through hands-on fun.
What to Expect:
-
Learn the science of flight and the forces that affect it
-
Apply the Engineering Design Process to test and improve designs
-
Explore different types of paper airplane models for distance, speed, and accuracy
-
Track performance and analyze flight patterns to refine their planes
-
Build problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills
